History
Big Sam’s was founded in 2012 with a simple belief: India deserved better seafood.
After completing his MBA at Harvard Business School, Lavin Samtani returned to India and saw a growing demand for high-quality, responsibly sourced food. He started Big Sam’s by bringing Norwegian Salmon to a handful of stores in Mumbai.
Over the years, we have grown from a salmon business into one of India’s leading premium food brands, offering an extensive range of seafood, meat and vegetarian products across supermarkets, e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms nationwide.
We have built our reputation by introducing exceptional products to India, including Organic Salmon, Fresh Salmon, Bluefin Tuna, Oysters and Chilean Sea Bass. Our long-standing relationships with trusted suppliers around the world allow us to source products that meet our exacting standards for quality and freshness.
As a family business, we take a long-term view. We believe in honest sourcing, uncompromising quality and doing right by our customers — principles that have guided Big Sam’s from the very beginning.

Quality & Responsible Sourcing
At Big Sam’s, the customer is our priority and we understand that quality and traceability are paramount. Thanks to strict processes, our products are procured, packed and dispatched with the greatest care and hygiene. Our suppliers, with whom we have longstanding relationships- in some cases spanning over decades, conduct rigorous tests from their end, which are repeated by the FSSAI and ourselves in India.
Given the sensitive nature of our products, we ensure that the correct temperature is maintained throughout the journey of the product, all the way to the customer’s doorstep.

Institutional Sales
Since the inception of the company, in 2012, Big Sam’s has had an actively operating Institutional Sales division. We have quickly grown to become one of India’s leading suppliers of seafood and meats, setting the standard in the Indian food industry. Thanks to our multiple-level quality checks, we are the preferred choice of India’s top 5-star hotel chains and restaurants. Right from the production until the delivery, quality is closely monitored by our team of experts, which includes the product itself along with the packaging, labelling, storage temperature and logistics.

Giving back to society is important to us and so we make it part of what we do. At Big Sam’s, we know that giving time is just as important as giving money, and therefore, each member of the Big Sam’s family has contributed their time & effort towards making the world a better place.
